Before I go on to describe the above pic, I want to mention a few things and suggest a few places for you to travel. For more information about me and ways to reach me, go to . The links below (the lambdas) are of a site in development with Ryan and his server-site, §. Check 'em out! *Note that a lambda without a subscript will bring you back here.
And, here is an official OpenBSD mirror site (ftp, http, and rsync protocals). I'm really excited about the the world of *NIX and suggest that you take a look at it too (it's free ;-).

The above diagram is of my personal set-up, brought to the world through the help of friends and family. I sincerely appreciate their help. Below is a fuller description of each piece of the puzzle.

  • lambda is the big dog, the work horse, the . . . 800 pound gorilla . . . Anyway, Ryan graciously allows lambda to reside in my office. At this point, it serves this website and . It also acts as my network access point (wired and wireless) and firewall under OpenBSD 4.6. As far as hardware is concerned, it's a Dell Insprion 410 with a Pentium-III 566MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. It has three 160GB hardrives and I'm contemplating adding, but we'll see. While there is a monitor pictured, I rarely use it. Although, I should. It's pretty nice. Thanks Santa!
  • montague is my main *work* machine. I got it late in 2008 (it still has the new computer smell). It is running OpenBSD -current. Monty was there when I first started using oBSD. So, I have a bit of a sentimental connection to it. Hardware . . . it's a Lenovo Thinkpad T400 with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 and 2 GB of memory. I'm not much of a gamer or movie watcher. So, I don't feel it necessary to supply those specs.
  • frege has a split personality between Debian 5.0.1 and Windows XP and has been around here the longest. It's wires are of an HP Pavilion ze4430, AMD Athlon 1.79GHz processor and 448MB of RAM. My window into the linux world, which has been fun and rather painless with debian.
  • aristotle is the oldest member of all my machines (as the name may suggest). It's running NetBSD 4.0.1 with an Intel Pentium Processor under the hood of a Toshiba Satellite. I'm still getting to know aristotle. So, there are likely to be more details on the way (don't hold your breath). My father got way back when and used it . . . well, never. So, I've adopted it and perhaps am giving it reason to go on.
  • russell is now the newest member if the lambda family. He is an HP Pavilion from the 90's with an AMD 686 processor and a 60G Maxtor HD. My folk's house must be cursed because this is the second rescued machine (Recall that aristotle was the first.) I don't mind. It's a ton-o-fun. I've installed Gentoo. I think I've got him working at his full potential, which is good and saying a lot, given the state he was in at his old home. When I first introduced him, I wasn't sure what to do with him . . . but . . . he now has purpose. I set him up with some new hardware (a TV tuner) and have installed mythTV. He runs as my DVR. Pretty cool!
